my 2 cents: fate deals you the cards (the house!) and you decide how to play the hand. If things don't go well, it could either mean the cards dealt to you were bad or you played badly...most likely the latter but sometimes the former too :)

Think of situations where there are no marriages. No one will feel the bondage of families, no possessive partners & there'll be no need for offsprings.
